Places to visit in Ongole

Ongole is one of the small coastal town in Andhra Pradesh. The city has a rich heritage of temples along with beautiful beaches. The city is famous for ongole cattles which is exported from India. The history of the town dates back from 230 BCE. The Satavahanas and Mauryas ruled Ongole during that time. Here are the few places to visit in Ongole.


Kothapatnam Beach


Kothapatnam beach is one of the most beautiful beach  in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.  The beach is well known for mesmering natural beauty. The thrilling sunrise and sunset, the crystal clear sand, the mischievous waves and the pleasant breeze caters a delightful ambience for the visitors. The beach is also dotted with beautifully colored boats that offers boating on the beautiful waves of Bay of Bengal . The fun filled beach is definitely a must visit in Ongole.


Vodarevu Beach


Vodarevu beach is one of the tranquil beach with major tourist attraction. The beach houses boating, swimming, fishing and one of the most adventurous water sport beach. The glittering sand , clear water,  charming sunrise  and  sunset on the edge of the never ending sea adds so much grace to the alluring beach that many visitors tend to spend their weekend on the lap of the beach.

Chennakesava Swamy Temple

Chennakesava swamy temple is built during the rule of Haihaya kings in 1113 AD. The temple is rich is cultural and architecture heritage. The presiding deity in the temple is Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Constructed in 13th century the temple attracts thousand devotees throughout the year.

Kashi Visweswara Swamy Temple

Located on the river Kusasthali, Kashi Visweswara temple is constructed on the year 1945. Presided by Lord Shiva, the temple is visited by thousand devotees during festivals. It is also a famous shrine for devotees of Addala Mandapam.

Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir

Constructed in 1989, the temple attracts thousands of devotees every year from nearby region. Dedicated to Lord Shirdi, the temple is well known for its charity. The temple provides free education, free hospital to the people in poverty.

Tangutur

Tangutur is a town in PRakasam district well known for religious pilrims. The town houses many ancient temples like Shivalayam, Chennakesavalayam, Ramalayam and Peleramma Tall. The temples are ancient and  rich in architecture that display the skills of  artsmanship of ancient India. Rich in sculptures, the temples attract thousands of spiritual seekers every year. The shivalayam temple is also famous for its 1116 Shiva lingas in it.

Chandavaram

Chandavaram is considered to be the base of Buddhist Mahastupa in Andhra Pradesh. The   ancient three winged monastary  is located on the bank of the river Gudlakamma. The site is located on Singarakonda hills.The structure is magnificently designed and well known for its amazing architecture built during the Satavahana regime. The sculpture displays art of  Amaravati School of Art dating period between second century BC and second centtury AD.

Bhairavakona

Bhairavakona is a holy site located on  Nallamala hill and known for its historical importance. There are seven to eight temples on the hill that belongs to seventh and eighth centuries. The ancient Shiva temple is one of the major attraction of the site. The ancient site also houses a massive 200 feet waterfall that is quite enthralling to watch.
